Have You Ever Tried Fasting? .............. Not just from food—but from your phone?
I’ve tried food fasting in the past. I was intrigued about many potential benefits of fasting, such as cellular autophagy to live longer, or to drop a few pounds after a vacation. The fasting routine wasn’t sustainable for me, but it did allow me to learn some valuable lessons. One was discovering how many things I thought I needed to get through my day, weren’t truly necessities. That daily cup of coffee, something sweet after dinner, or evening glass of wine? - not necessary. My body didn’t need those things. Fasting brought my clarity to distinguish needs from wants and allowed me to regain power over my cravings.
Lately, I’ve been wondering… what if we tried that same idea with our phones?
Some groups call it a phone fast—a small but intentional break from our devices. Imagine waking up and not reaching for your phone first thing. What if you brushed your teeth, made coffee, maybe even walked outside, went for a run or read the newspaper before checking notifications? What would that quiet space do for your mood, your mindset, your presence?
